With our move over to the Chippewa Flowage area, we’ve spent the past few months discovering new places to eat and visit. During my excursions around the Hayward area, I’ve frequently driven past RayJay’s Bar & Grill, located near the corner of Hwy B and Hwy CC, but had never stopped in until we moved to that area.
Wow! What a great find! Very friendly owners, bar staff and waitresses – we’ve made some good friends here already! The bar area is adorned in northwoods flair; fishing lures, wildlife mounts, and some unique decorations. The handmade bar has a beautiful top of wood carved – skillfully painted fish suspended in heavy glaze, on a bed of lake pebbles -sure makes an interesting conversation piece. The bar seating is very comfortable too; finally, a foot rest that my feet can actually reach! They have a spacious dining room serviced by very capable and friendly wait staff too.
The food is great also; their homemade pizzas are absolutely loaded with cheese and toppings and have a tasty rolled-over crust. I warn you though – all the food portions here are generous and their large pizza will leave two of you with leftovers for a few days! One of our favorites is their Thursday night special; all you can eat ribs. Hands down, their ribs are the best I’ve had in Hayward. Tender, flavorful meat with a rich, smoky flavor, basted in a wonderful smoky/sweet/tangy BBQ sauce- mmmmm. The ribs are accompanied by heavenly baked beans simmered with pulled pork, potato choice, corn on the cob, toast and coleslaw – this meal is fit for a king, or a queen with an appetite!
They offer all-you-can-eat chicken almost nightly and it is the best in the area. Choose from fried, smoked or grilled – I’ve tried all three and can’t decide which is my favorite. There are many other food selections we’ve enjoyed here – all are so good, and all offer you very generous portions, so come hungry!
RayJay’s is not on the water but they are located at the crossroads to the Chippewa Flowage and enjoy customers from a wide area. They are open all year round and cater to a busy snowmobile crowd during the winter months in addition to the year-round residents and seasonals who frequent the area during the summer months.
Stop in to say hi to Ray and the bunch – you will enjoy the experience!
